MINUTES OF A MEETING HELD AT RAGLAN COMMUNITY CENTRE

Tuesday 21st August 2007 at 8.00p.m.

Present : Mesdames Margaret Lawrence, Joan Barrington, Doris Pritchard, Amanda Vaughan, Rachel Thomas, Linda Lewis, Beverley Turner.

The chairman, Mr. T. Phillips welcomed members to the meeting.

 

The minutes of the meeting held on the 19th June and the 17th July 2007 were agreed by the committee and signed by the chairman.

Matters Arising.

Progress Reports

                M.U.G.A. The on going saga of the all weather play area is now in the hands of the ombudsman. Plans for the play area are before the council. Raglan Community Council has been advised that there is now a £9,000 shortfall. This is to be investigated by Trevor Phillips.

 

                Village Hall Our architect, Karen Downhill has inspected the current school building that is proposed to be the new village hall. Her initial reaction is favourable. The Association are still waiting for the  report on the state of the building from the county.

                                 

Fund Raising

                Raglan Day Arrangements are almost complete. Linda Lewis took members through the details. John Randel is to be contacted to ensure that the insurance company has been notified.  

Linda Lewis has the Health and Safety Report.

Raglan Music Festival are to have a marquee.

The P.A. system is to come from Bingo.

The PTA has asked for a £10 donation for the use of their gazebos. The Conservatives are lendin their marquee free of charge.

Trevor Phillips is to organise some small trophies for group competitions. Individual prizes will be cash or children’s’ sweets.

 

Cinema Amanda Vaughan attended a meeting for the mobile movies on the 16th August. She reported that the mobile movies are not going to be funded by the County. There had been discussions on the opportunity to purchase the equipment from the mobile movies, either individually or by a consortium of village halls. The option of purchasing new equipment was also discussed at the meeting. Grants may be available. The cost of just the film hire with licensing rights is £90. Amanda is to attend the next meeting on 6th September.

 

                Car Boot Sales These have raised an average of £80. Consideration is being given to extending the car boot sales into October. The next village hall car boot sale is on the 16th September.

News Letter The first news letter has been well received. The next is due out at the beginning of July to cover July, August and September. It is hoped to include a flyer for Raglan day with this issue that will be in the shops and pubs.

 

Village Competitions

  • Raglan has won the ‘Best Kept Village in Gwent’
  • They have won the Business award category in the Calor Village of the Year (Wales) competition
  • Raglan came joint 2nd in the ‘Wales in Bloom’ competition and were awarded Silver Gilt. There were very few marks between 1st and 2nd.
  • The results of the ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition will be announced on the 26th September.
